Worker struck, killed by bulldozer in Red Hook

RED HOOK - A 44-year-old female construction worker was killed Thursday when she was struck by an 18-ton bulldozer in Red Hook, police said.

The woman, who was in the process of leveling a field at 7775 Albany Post Road while working for Jeff Decker & Son, was struck by the bulldozer shortly after 1 p.m. when her partner moved the machine to adjust it, according to state police.

She was taken to Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, where she was pronounced dead. State police weren’t identifying the worker, who was from Elizaville, until the family was notified, said Trooper Melissa McMorris, a state police spokeswoman.

Assisting at the scene were the Red Hook village police and firefighters, Dutchess County sheriff’s deputies and Northern Dutchess paramedics.

State police said the reported the incident to the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which investigated workplace accidents.

The investigation is ongoing, McMorris said.
