Dutchess Community College will host a panel discussion on the current refugee crisis in Syria on Wednesday.

The discussion, moderated by history professor Andrew Rieser, will focus on refugees’ personal experiences, the impact of current U.S. policy, liberal states’ obligation to sustain resettlement efforts and opportunities for individual and community involvement, according to an announcement from the college.

The panel will include DCC history professor Werner Steger, Bard College student and Syrian refugee Sana Mustafa, Vassar College Professor and chair of history Maria Hohn and SUNY Empire State College Assistant Professor Jenny Mincin.

The panel is sponsored by DCC’s Department of History, Government and Economics and the Richard Reitano Endowed Faculty Chair in the Social Sciences through the Dutchess Community College Foundation. Additional support comes from the June and Aaron Gillespie Forum.

The discussion will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Greenspan Cafeteria in Drumlin Hall on the school’s main campus in Poughkeepsie. It is free and open to the public. Attendees should park in Lot D on Cottage Road.
