Barrett Art Center's annual national juried photography exhibition is marking 30 years of showcasing photographic talents from the Hudson Valley and across the country.

"Photowork 2017" opens Saturday, Jan. 21, in the city gallery at 55 Noxon St.

The exhibit will feature 63 photographic works representing a range of subjects and styles that were selected from more than 800 entries, according to a written release from the art center.

"You Have Small Braids Like Spider Threads," by Angelika Ejtel, of Dallas, Texas, is included in the annual national juried show.

To mark the three decades of "Photowork" exhibitions, three jurors each selected photographic artwork for the show: juror Isaac Diggs, a photographer and faculty member at the School of Visual Arts in New York City; juror Rebecca Morse, associate curator of the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department at Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and juror Robert Stevens, former photo editor of TIME Magazine and faculty member at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

The work of three local residents has been selected to join 42 other photographers representing 16 states in "Photowork 2017": Mark Lyon of Marlboro, Karl Schmitz of Poughkeepsie and Marie Triller of Hopewell Junction.

"The Cygnus Wall," by Tim Christensen, of Greenville, North Carolina, is part of "Photowork 2017."

During the "Photowork 2017" exhibition, Barrett Art Center will also host a Juried Members’ Show, featuring 26 works by BAC members selected by Lynn Palumbo, Dutchess Community College instructor and director of DCC’s Washington Art Gallery.

An opening reception for both exhibitions will be held Saturday, Jan. 21. Jurors’ awards with cash prizes for "Photowork 2017" will be announced at the reception. The list of prize winners and accepted entries will be posted on Barrett Art Center’s website after the opening reception at www.barrettartcenter.org under "Exhibits, Photowork 2017."
