Golden Corral opening delayed to November

Fans of the Golden Corral will have to wait a bit longer before they can enjoy Bourbon Street Chicken and its other buffet options in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

The chain restaurant's Town of Poughkeepsie location will miss its planned summer opening window, and is now scheduled to open in November, according to Sherrance Henderson, franchisee owner for the Golden Corral.

"We should be open before Thanksgiving," Henderson said.

The delay in construction was caused by a lack of available supplies necessary for the project, Henderson said.

"There was a backlog of supplies we needed, but didn't have access to," Henderson said.

Ground breaking at the site took place in April at 2345 South Road on Route 9.

Golden Corral is expected to bring 125 jobs to the Town of Poughkeepsie, including four managerial positions, Henderson said. She predicts hiring to begin sometime in October.

Golden Corral is an American buffet-style restaurant which features a variety of food styles . The franchise is prominent throughout the South.

The restaurant would be the second Golden Corral to open in the region, following the June opening of a Middletown location. The closest Golden Corral prior to the Middletown opening was in Colonie, Albany County.

The restaurant opening follows an influx of chain restaurants planning to open in the area, including Texas Roadhouse, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and Tilted Kilt in the Town of Poughkeepsie and Chipotle Mexican Grill in Fishkill.
