LAGRANGEVILLE - With an expected opening set for early spring, ShopRite is hiring employees for its new LaGrangeville location, which was formerly an A&P supermarket.

ShopRite is expected to open its 34th store in the former A&P location at 1642 Route 82 sometime in early spring, according to a press release.

A&P declared bankruptcy last summer, announcing plans to sell most of its stores, including its three Dutchess County locations. A&P closed its LaGrangeville store after holding a closing sale on Nov. 19.

ShopRite deal to purchase LaGrangeville A&P, others, in question

Two stores in Pleasant Valley and Hopewell Junction were sold to Acme Markets, while the LaGrangeville store was sold to ShopRite. The LaGrangeville site is the last to make the transition, as the other two stores have already opened under the Acme brand.

While ShopRite did not indicate that it would retain any of the former A&P employees, the grocery store expects to employ "more than double the store associates than the previous tenant," a spokesperson said.

As part of the transition, ShopRite plans to make energy-efficient changes to the store, including installing a new energy management system, LED lighting and enclosed refrigeration cases, the spokesperson said.

Those interested in applying for a position at the new store can do so at shoprite.com/career-opportunities. The website lists openings in various sections of the store, including cashiers, baggers, maintenance, bakers and clerks for various departments.

Applications can also be submitted at the store's hiring center, located in the same plaza as the store. The center can be contacting via phone at 845-447-1523 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday though Saturday.
