What’s new on the business scene for Oct. 13

ETC.

New gym opens in Poughkeepsie — Michelle Pascarella and Arlene Owen opened Shelly’s Xtreme Fitness, a “hardcore gym with a new attitude,” at 61 Page Park Drive, off Route 55, Poughkeepsie.

Pascarella trained at and worked for the East Coast Gym in Poughkeepsie with its owner, Jim Melius, who has closed that business. “We cater to every level of fitness for those who are serious about training and getting healthy, much like the principles Jim carved at East Coast,” she said.

“Not only do we have bodybuilding/fitness contest prep and training, but we have brand new showers, day care, classes, powerlifting and strongman equipment, lifting meet nights and upcoming powerlifting competitions,” Pascarella said. “We offer fun and functional classes to help with weight loss, balance, agility and more.”

Some members came over from East Coast and were working with Melius when he first opened his gym about 30 years ago, she said.

“We believe in following ‘old school’ traditions for the upcoming generations,” Pascarella said.
