PAWLING - In the wake of dropping plans for an outdoor stage, Daryl’s House in Pawling continues to work at expanding its musical reach.

Daryl Hall

The outdoor stage was going to sit in the backyard of the music venue and restaurant owned by former Dutchess County resident Daryl Hall of Hall and Oates.

But Daryl’s House was unable to secure town approvals for the stage in time for the opening performance by Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings on May 27, according to the venue’s marketing director and promoter representative.

Now, 14 concerts scheduled for the outdoor stage will be held at four different venues. These include Daryl’s House; the Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie; Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill; and College Street Music Hall in New Haven, Connecticut.

In conjunction with the new locations for these concerts, Daryl's House is launching "Daryl's House Presents," to stage concerts in different venues.

Daryl’s House in February announced plans for the outdoor stage, with a lawn for standing and lawn chairs and a capacity of more than 1,000. The future of the backyard stage is now uncertain, said Pat Ryan, marketing director and promoter representative for Daryl’s House.

Town of Pawling Supervisor David Kelly said the approvals process is in place for a reason.

“I don’t want to see them find different venues,” Kelly said. “But the other thing is, the health, safety and welfare of those in attendance and the people of Pawling are first and foremost.”

Concerts moved to Daryl’s House include Lucius June 24 and Shovels & Rope July 7. At the Bardavon, Colin Hay, of Men At Work fame, performs July 15 and St. Paul & the Broken Bones performs July 21.
