City of Poughkeepsie Fourth of July fireworks — 9:20 p.m. July 4. The City of Poughkeepsie will host the annual fireworks event. The best places to view the show are from Waryas Park for free; tickets required for Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum or Walkway Over the Hudson. Waryas Park will be closed to vehicles beginning at 2 p.m. on July 4. Free parking is available in all municipal lots during the event. On-street metered parking is free after 6 p.m. Handicap parking is available in the small lot on Main Street, adjacent to Waryas Park and River Station. Rain date July 5. www.cityofpoughkeepsie.com.

Hyde Park Independence Day parade — Roosevelt Theater, Route 9, Hyde Park. 10 a.m. July 4. Parade starts at theater and ends at Regina Coeli School, where awards will be presented. Visit www.hydeparkny.us.

Reading of the Declaration of Independence — Rosendale Theater, 408 Main St., Rosendale. 9:30 a.m. July 4. Reading sponsored by Blue Stone Press features 20 members of the community including civic and business leaders, students, teachers and artists. Refreshments follow program. Military drill and cannon firing at 2 p.m. followed by children’s wooden musket drill.
