Owen King’s ‘Alien Invasion’ a graphic tale of survival

Vassar graduate Owen King and Mark Jude Poirier are co-authors of the graphic novel “Intro to Alien Invasion,” illustrated by Nancy Ahn, about an alien invasion on a college campus in Vermont.

The book, which published this week by Scribner, is a fantasy collaboration which features Stacey, the main character, who is a student at Fenton College, a liberal arts college. Her relationship with an eccentric astrobiology professor there makes her few friends wary and they question his theories about alien species.

During what she thought would be another lonely spring break on campus, a damaging hurricane strikes, knocking out power and cellphone service. Stacey and her friends become stranded in the midst of, what else, but an alien invasion. As space insects burrow into students and staff, turning them into monsters, Stacey and her friends try to prevent the infestation from spreading.

Owen King is the author of the novel “Double Feature, We’re All in This Together: A Novella and Stories,” and co-editor of “Who Can Save Us Now? Brand-New Superheroes and Their Amazing (Short) Stories.” Mark Jude Poirier is the author of two novels and two story collections.
